Blog Week 6: Oct
2 to Oct 6th
“The child who
concentrates is immensely happy” – Dr. Montessori
Hello Parents,
Welcome to October!
This week was filled with picture day excitement, a birthday walk and
the school wide spelling bee. A
few children were excited to try big works while others were excited with the
new work offerings. Friday of
course ended with high energy with the looming long weekend. Parents don’t forget progress reports
are in the parent folders and if you have any questions or concerns please feel
free to email me!
Monday: Ms
Laura reports that on Monday the children were active with math works and
practical life. Spanish class,
they reviewed the colors. It was a
fast pace morning with a relaxing afternoon.
Tuesday: A
return of Ms. Becky! At circle we
review the calendar and caught up on our missing day. We also read When Autumn Comes, by Robert Maass and
reviewed our talks on the seasons.
The energy level was high so we balanced work cycles with longer recess
to also take in the great weather.
Charlotte’s Web in the afternoon.
Wednesday: The
excitement has happened! Today is
picture day. We started the day
with indoor work cycle in hopes to keep everyone looking in tip top shape for
pictures. As the first group of
the day to take pictures our class did very well. Some children were instructed to stand
on a bench, as the photographer tried to make the back row visible. We practiced saying silly words and
hoped that most of the children were smiling. Afterwards, the children were lined up for their individual
pictures and returned to the classroom for snack when finished. As if picture day wasn’t enough
excitement, we also had music class with the great Mr. Wolfe! They did more movement songs and
singing. Some of the class
listened to a reading of The four elements: Earth, by Carme Sole Vendrell. After midday break the nappers somehow
got to nap, while the non nappers worked on their spelling, sandpaper letters
lists, or reading works. Language
seemed to dominate work cycle as excitement grew over the early reader
works.
Thursday: The
day started off with a birthday walk.
Happy 3rd Orbit around the sun C! Work cycle was buzzing with practical
life works, language and math. A
few students experimented with the new PL work: flower press. I hope to have the kids pressing
flowers in the coming weeks, as they get more familiar with the knobs and hand
controls of the device.
Students choose some very larger works today. Another 45 layout, Grammar lessons: Introducing Noun and
Article, decimal family works, geography works and spelling works. Two students elected to join the
school wide spelling bee, which was very brave of them. We are very proud of both of their
attempts and super proud that V ended up winning this month’s school wide
Spelling Bee. Congratulations
V!
Friday: TGIF
before a long weekend. Remember
parents, no school on Monday! New
work was the pumpkin paper stamp work in practical life. It was popular among the younger
children and they may have orange hands, despite the lesson to not put fingers
in the stamp pad. The older
children explored more the Bob Books and the science parts of an animal
works. Our first POA Fish book was
created and well as a rewritten Bob Book. Name tracing among the 4 years olds was also very popular,
and I can report some have nice grips on those pencils! The afternoon we read another chapter of
CW: Wilbur is now at the fair and meets Uncle. Afterwards I did a read out loud in the library while a
silent work time happened as an experiment. Some children choose to completely listen while others used
the opportunity to finish some larger works.
