Week 24- Valentine's Day

Week 24- Valentine's Day

Dear Parents,

What a great week!  So much love and energy in the air.  Just a quick note to parents that with the warmer weather the playground is very muddy.  Please make sure that your child has a set or two of dry cloths and/or waterproof play pants or overalls (puddle jumpers).  That will help them transition easier from outdoor to indoor work.  Thanks!

Monday-  Started the day with the date and calendar.  We also celebrated V's 6th birthday walk.  Happy birthday V!  The kids found some new works on the shelf: Valentine card making and Valentine bracelet.  They enjoyed a number of activities, but I think the best part of the day was enjoying the river outside in the playground.  Mother Nature had supplied us with 49 degrees today and they had so much fun in those puddles and rivers.  (Thanks for understanding about the very wet clothing!)  Other popular works include: Stamp Game and bead addition,

Tuesday- Spanish class with Sra. Rosa.  We have three levels of Spanish, some of the students are still doing farm animals, some are working on foods and days of the week, and others are weeks and seasons.  We also have some new sound boxes out in the language area, which were very popular.  Other popular works include stamp game, calendar work (counting the days till Ms. Katie has her baby), push pin valentine bracelet, and letter/card making.

Wednesday (Valentine's Day)-  Today was an special day.  We reviewed the classroom rules (Kindness and respect, as well as rules about the coatroom and touching others without their permission).  After circle and snack our morning was spent focusing on creating paper bag mailboxes for the Valentine's.  Before music class we cleaned up and held a special circle to pass out our Valentine's.  It went very smoothly!  Then we had music class with Mr. Rob, and focused on our songs that we'll sing for Art's night.  After some time outside in the puddles for recess, we had lunch and went to nap/storytime.  We read a chapter in the Magic Treehouse #14, Day of the Dragon King, by Mary Pope Osborn.    Afterwards, we did jobs and played some movement games.  At the end of the day, F***'s family worked so hard creating Valentine's tee-shirt which we wore and took pictures.  It was fun dressing up!

Thursday-  We began circle with a Half Birthday Walk.  Happy 6 1/5 Birthday R!  We had a good work cycle today.  Many different works were being reviewed such as cutting with scissors, name tag tracing, sandpaper letter games, Stamp Game, multiplication by bead groups, free art with markers and scissors, card making, counting down till Ms. Katie's baby is born, and Russian doll.  After some time outside, we came in for our last Pizza Thursday.  Other popular works choose were geometric sphere, sound association, and season mat.

Friday- Happy Chinese New Year!  Its the year of the dog.  We began the day discussing the date and calendar as well as kindness and respect.  A few Chinese New Year works were popular today, such as the Zodiac calendar and chopstick transfer.  Other popular works included bank game, sand paper lettter extensions,  map of Asia, cultural figure lacing, teapot pouring and geometric solids.

Thanks for another fun week!

Ms. Becky and the Preschool Staff.
