Week 32: (Last week's)

Dear Parents,

What a great week back after the break.  The weather was great and the children jumped right back into the work cycle. Just a reminder to the parents, the weather is hot so make sure that you child has a water bottle and possible a hat for sun protection.  You may also send in bug repellent and sun screen with your child's name on it.

Monday-  At morning circle we review the date and calendar.  We talked about Spring Break and a little bit of what's in store for May.  I also challenged the older children to check out their work drawers and work on some unfinished works, so you may start seeing some older works reappear in the work cycle.  Popular works included- Sandpaper Letter Extensions, Pink Tower and Brown Stairs, Stamp Game Addition both with exchanges and without exchanges, and Painting with Renior inspired palette.

Tuesday-  At morning circle we reviewed the date and the calendar.  We talked about May and wrote in the activities on the calendar  that are coming up.  Popular lessons included: North American Animal matching, Stamp Game Addition, Mapping Europe, Bob Books, Step Ladder teens to twenty, Art, Parts of a Plant, Journal and Spelling books.  Also had Sra. Rosa review fruits and started with some of the children family members names.  Some children enjoy learning that names like brother and sister are the same except for -o or -a at the end.

Wednesday-  Morning circle we reviewed date and calendar and the rules to visit the science fair.  It was super fun to explore the upper classmen's projects.  To name a few projects, we learned about electricity and magnetism, densities, weather, non newtonian solids, mercury, fertilizers, how heat effects rubber, and centrifugal forces.  It was super impressive!  We came back to the class and had our snack and started a work cycle before Mr. Wolfe came for music class.  We sang movement songs and listened to him play the guitar.  Afterwards we had a special treat and was able to explore nature in the upper field.  Some friends found spring flowers and plant life, while other enjoyed chicken watching, and others climbed new trees.  Eventually we returned to our playground to enjoy the rest of recess with this beautiful hot weather.   Popular works today included North American Animals, Stamp Game Addition, Parts of a Plant, Parts of a Root, Multiplication by Bead Groups, Sandpaper Letters, Geometric Shapes, Sand Pouring works, Painting inspired by Renoir, and Parts of a Flag.

Thursday- We began the day reviewing the date and calendar.  We talked about little about upcoming holidays in May, picking flowers in the playground (dandelions are okay but no other flowers) and had a lesson on Parts of a Flower.  We have a model daffodil to try to find each part of the flower, as well as a puzzle and the three part matching card set.  Some children seem interested in the different types of flowers so it will be interesting if they start using the vocabulary to compare them.   Popular works included Stamp Game Addition, Parts of a Frog, Parts of  Bird, Flower Families, Spelling Books, and Sandpaper Letters.

Friday- May the 4th be with you!  Today we began the day reviewing the date and calendar.  Then we read Lumpito and the Painter From Spain, by Monica Kulling.  We had a lesson inspired by Picasso and started a special project for Mother's Day.  Popular works included Stamp Game Addition, Group Bead Multiplication, Coffee Grinding, Clock Book, Art, Sandpaper Letters and Lacing.  I won't say too much more about the specail project, but I'm sure all the children will be excited to bring it home next week!

Have a Safe Cinco de Mayo and a great weekend!  See everyone on Monday!

Thanks,
Ms. Becky and the Preschool Staff
