Hello Families!

What a great first week of school we have had. The children were so wonderfully adaptive to our new changes, schedules and rules in the classroom. Each day this week was better than the last and we are feeling so much joy about what is to come with these special little beings.

This week there was a lot going on, from work in the practical life area for new and/or young students, sensorial works being experimented with and knocked over and books shared between friends.

On Tuesday the children learned to wash hands between each work they choose, and to roll their mats up to store beautifully in their cubbies. Some children worked hard on the math bring me game with a teacher. Others worked on washing dishes. Children enjoyed the peace corner and zen garden where there is a calm down jar for them to observe and yoga cards for each child to practice! Others worked on cleaning the classroom and others still worked on the 100 board, teens chains and magnetic letters. Our first day was great a success.

On Wednesday the children picked up right where they left off with snack as an option when they feel hungry and going right into work if they wish… (most children chose snack of course.) From there they painted, used the pink stair, and 100 board. Some children received lessons with the bead chains in 3’s and 5’s and worked on counting by groups. Other children used the brown stair and learned about cause and effect of stacking things precariously, while different friends enjoyed puzzles. Today friends were particularly interested in the North American monument matching cards.

Thursday was even more fun than the last two days! Children were less inclined to start with snack today and some jumped right into working after playing outside. They practiced freezing when they heard the copper bell, and playing I-spy to make our classroom beautiful. Some friends drew with chalk and others wrote letters to family or friends at home. Other children had lessons working with the fraction metal insets, while others were fascinated with the North American animal 3-part matching cards. A couple friends began push pinning North America and some children spent the morning reading to each other peacefully. We had a practice fire drill and were so impressed with the children’s reactions, some were nervous but learned quickly it wasn’t nearly as loud as they expected, and the children did a great job keeping each other safe and sticking together as we walked as a group to our meeting spot.
