Week 15. December 5-9.

“As we observe children, we see the vitality of their spirit, the maximum effort put forth in all they do, the intuition, attention and focus they
bring to all life’s events, and
the sheer joy they experience in living.”

—Maria Montessori, The Child, Society and the World (Unpublished Speeches and Writing)

 Monday, December 5

This morning at Calendar Time, Ms. Sarah talked about the signs of winter.  Today's sign of winter was a frosty leaf.

At snack time, we were joined by a lovely purple playdough octopus, courtesy of the upper elementary class.

We were also joined by one of Santa's elves.

Some Kindergartners had a handwriting lesson.

Other children had a lesson with Ms. Kristen on animals of the world.

At the end of the work period, Ms. Jenny came for dance and movement class.  This week, we enjoyed a variety of movement songs and dances, including "The Wind," "Jackie Frost," "See the Horses Galloping," "Punchinella," "O Belinda," and "Walking in the Park."  Ms. Jenny's Moon Maiden puppet made an appearance and gave a personal "good bye" to each child at the end of class.

In the afternoon, some children worked on handwriting.

Wednesday, December 7
A beautiful ocean wave, shell, and starfish were waiting for us this morning, a gift from the playdough fairies.

Today was a rainy morning, so we had indoor recess.  Legos, coloring, and playdough activity boxes were popular choices.

Our busy work morning included food prep with carrots, apples, and celery, a donation from one of our friends in honor of his fifth birthday.  Thank you, and happy birthday!

Blocks were popular this morning.

This group of children told a block story:

The Plane that Doesn't Fly

One day there was a plane.  No one was flying the plane, so it became a secret hideout.  There are block people that live there.  There are stairs that lead to the top, so you can look out the top.  Animals live there.
