“The child must construct his adaptation to his environment from the beginning of his life. This adaptation is developed by the child taking in everything that exists in the environment by absorption, just as he takes in language.”Maria Montessori, The 1946 London Lectures

A Playdough Pink Tower! What will they think of next?
We began our week with a birthday celebration.
Four trips around the sun!
We also began our study of Africa. Below are some pictures of the new works.
The African Animal Work
The African Continent Box
Africa A-Z
Tracing Africa
Later, we had creative movement class with Ms. Jenny. The children explored winter-themed movement, and imagined they were inside their own snow globes as all sorts of animals. They also played and sang the Snowy Blowy dance (it sure sounds a lot like the hokey pokey!), and showed off their amazing magic moving snowperson creations!
Valentine's Day work was also very popular this week.
Sorting by Color

The basket is filled to the brim with valentines.
Here we go!
Later, we had music with Ms. Ida, who brought a little friend.
A visit from a "big kid."

We were working so hard today, we forgot to take many pictures, but we have a few below. Highlights of the day included several new Africa-themed works from Ms. Kaya, illustrating the reading booklets "Let's Camp" and "Yank the Tank," and working on dynamic subtraction with the Golden Beads.
