Week 12 Nov13-18: Snowy Day, Community Meeting, and New Works.. Oh My!

Week 12: Snowy Day, Community Meeting, and New Works.. Oh my!

Dear Parents,

This week a few new works were added, a new chapter book was started, and we celebrated a birthday work.  And it snowed!  A reminder to parents:  Please send in warm winter jackets, hats and mittens. We try our best to get the kids to go out, so layers are great to have, and if they had a spare pair of mittens to leave at school that might be useful as well.

Monday:  Started the day with freezing rain which turned into snow by afternoon pickup.  This was our first snowy day, so we had the special sort of excitement in the air.  Popular works paper weaving, sound associations, bead math, math rods, sand pour, rice pour, and perfume bottle pinch.   A magnetic hourglass is our highlighted work of the day, meant to build self control over movements while waiting for the sand to build on the other side.  We also began our next book, The Knight at Dawn by Mary Pope Osborn.

Tuesday:  Today we began the day discussing our part for community meeting.  The works the children were most proud of were: paper weaving, stamp game, world maps, and sensorial puzzles.  We had our first work cycle and then jumped into Spanish Class with Sra. Rosa.  We are really progressing on the continent song.  At a little past 11 am, we attended community meeting hosted by the upper elementary.   Our children enjoyed the play “The Case of the Spots” and sharing their works.   We were able to spend recess outside playing in the lingering snow.  Today’s highlighted work is an update of stationary bowl.  The sensorial material has grown smaller and the concept has returned to scooping using hands to find hidden objects. There’s the scooping lesson, as well as along drawn out cleaning lesson if a spill occurs.

Wednesday:  Morning circle we sang five spectacled frogs on a spectacled log.  Our work cycle began and new works included the dreidel game and the phases of the moon puzzle.  The driedel game is designed for our students who want to interact in a social way while learning math skills (addition and division in particular). Other popular works include math rods extensions, hammering works, and spelling.  We also had our Music class with Mr. Wolfe.  We ended our day with breathing exercises and another chapter in The Knight Before Dawn.

Thursday:  Another rainy morning meant indoor before care.   At circle time we started We Gather Together, Celebrating the Harvest Season, by Wendy Pleffer.   Work cycle began and math rod extensions, driedle game, sound lessons, metal insert, art, and tracing names were popular works. Ms. Katie gave a special lesson in building a calendar to count down the days till her baby is born.  In the afternoon, we had some more mindful breathing lessons and read another chapter in The Knight Before Dawn.

Friday:  We began morning circle with a special birthday walk.  Happy 3rd Birthday C***** and thank you for the fresh flowers!  Work cycle choices included math rod extensions, number bell game, North American Animals, and flower arrangements.  We ended the day with another chapter in a Knight Before Dawn.

Thanks for another busy week!
Ms Becky and The Preschool Staff!
