Dear Parents,
I just released I have only published the blog but haven't sent out the direct emails to your inboxes! My apologies! You should all have three new emails in your inboxes with the newsletter and blog from Valentine's Day week, just before break and of course this week in March. If you have any questions or comments please let me know!
In terms of the crazy weather, thanks for being with us. Mother Nature is giving us a snowy spring. So this means snow pants, hats and mittens will continue to be a good idea, as well as some sort of water/mud play clothes (like puddle jumpers). I know it seems like a hassle to still be dealing with wet clothes, but the kids are learning so much from their outdoor play.
Monday- Our first day back from the relaxing break! Everyone was so excited to be back! Our morning circle was a birthday walk. Happy 6th Birthday C***! We're starting to talk about Asia and have a number of works out inspired by that continent. One child asked about the flags from one of the geography books I had brought, and I brought the country flags from the lower elementary class down. A few children gathered for an in prompt "carrying and holding a flag" lesson and all afternoon you could see parade of flags in the classroom. It reminded me very much of the Olympics ceremonies from a few days ago! The children also started noticing the different types of flags and a few wanted to draw the flags. Other popular works included, stamp game math, bead game math, geometric shapes, sandpaper letters, reading out loud and free drawing.
Tuesday- The entire class noticed the flags and we had a large circle lesson reviewing how to carry and hold them. We had also gone over the date and calendar. Work time inspired a lot of geography research, either flag drawings or an Asian Country Research. Younger students enjoyed modeling some of the free draw after a particularly colorful flag. Other popular works included stamp game addition, bead multiplication, Asian Marble Transfer, parts of a turtle, sand paper letter extensions and geometric solids. We also enjoyed Spanish class with Sra. Rosa, reviewing fruits, animals on a farm, parts of the body and the seasons.
Wednesday- The great northeaster came today! We had the usual morning circle reviewing the date and calendar. Popular works still included the geography works, but also included bank game, sand paper letters, and sound associations. Mr. Wolfe came to sing with us at music class and we're practicing three songs for Arts Night in a few weeks. After music class we had a slightly longer than usual recess as some friends were picked up before the storm. After lunch the rest of the class was picked up and we all braved the journey home!
Thursday- Snow Day! Oh boy did we get snow! I hope everyone enjoys sledding and building snowmen. I enjoyed watching the powerful winds blow the snow horizontally!
Friday- Pizza Friday! It was super exciting to return to school after so much snow. We reviewed the date and calendar. Ms. Melissa also gave us a special art lesson on Georgia O'Keeffe. She read Through Georgia's Eyes, by Rachel Rodrigues and flipped through Georgia O'Keeffe, by Nancy Frazier. Some friends were very eager to do art inspired by O'Keeffe works while others were curious about geography and flags. Other popular works include Bank Game, free drawing and Tracing works.
Have a great weekend!
Ms. Becky and Preschool Staff
