“A child who has become master of his acts through long and repeated exercises, and who has been encouraged by the pleasant and interesting activities in which he has been engaged, is a child filled with health and joy and remarkable for his calmness and discipline.”
— Maria Montessori, The Discovery of the Child
We had a short, peaceful week, with Martin Luther King Day on Monday, and a snow day on Friday. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the children continued to work with the many food prep items donated last week, and the Practical Life fine motor shelves were busy as usual. On Tuesday, some new classroom items arrived: new Metal Insets, several new Geography Puzzles, and a new set of Large Number Cards for the mathematics area. Many children naturally explored these new items. Several children chose to work on dynamic addition equations with the Golden Bead Material, and shared their work each day at the end of the work period. On Wednesday evening, we had our first Family Night in two years. It was wonderful to see the families and children interacting with the classroom material, and to see the pride and excitement the children took in showing their work.
